PRE-SPRING 2013 STYLE TIPS

With spring just around the corner, but not quite here, it leaves winter wardrobes in a bit of a no-man’s land. Fret not, the weather may be grey but there are plenty of styling tips available to help bring out the best during the winter-meets-spring doldrums. Take all things cozy and wrap them up in a bit of romance, and suddenly winter’s last stretch won’t seem so long.

Boyfriend's Closet - Nothing is more inviting than throwing on your boyfriend's jacket. It makes for a quick and easy hit when going for that over-sized look, and what says “I love you” more than cuddling up in your guy’s favourite sweater.

The Colour Purple – Inject a little colour into that rotation of blacks and greys. The many shades of purple add just enough lift to prep you for the burst of florals waiting to make an appearance next month.

Casual Luxe – Take advantage of the fleece-y goodness your sweatpants offer. Wear them à la Hollywood starlet with a pair of suede booties, tall or ankle height, and throw on a trench for an instant how-to on wearing sweats with style.

The Sweater Dress - It's easy, warm, and classic, and pretty perfect for that important date night just around the corner. (Hint – chocolates and hearts are a definite must on this holiday.)

Wrapped Up - Scarves are about as basic as it comes for west coast gals. The mild winters mean lighter weight jackets and heavy sweaters are enough to bear the chill. For days when the mercury dips, wrap up an extra wide, extra long scarf for a fashion boost. Printed or solid, they transition from winter to spring with ease.

Black and White - This trend flows right into spring, (check out all the catwalks from the September shows). So if you haven't de-archived your white jeans yet, it may be time the next visit the sun makes.

Tartans and Plaids - Island style at its best, this neo-grunge staple is ideal for sitting by the fire or keeping you warm on a long walk. Go for a classic button down shirt or its re-incarnation via pants or coats; nothing says “Go Canucks” like plaid on jeans.

The Puffer Vest - The puffer coat was a must-have for fall/winter so transition it into spring by going sleeveless. It’ll fit effortlessly with that oversized sweater.

Layer It - Dig out your favourite spring tees and layer them up: pile one on top of the other, under cardigans, or cropped sweaters. The peek-a-boo of a tee under a sweater is the ultimate in parisienne understatement.
