Join us at Woodgrove Centre in Centre Court for Science Spectacular during Spring Break!

Science Spectacular is a partnership with Nanaimo Science & Sustainability Society (NS3) to host FREE hands-on, interactive science activities and workshops. Activities are fun while providing a learning opportunity for children of all ages.

NS3 COMMUNITY BOOTH

Drop-ins are welcome at the following community booth activities.

March 18 & 25:

  • Marble walls

  • Magnet exploration
  • Magnetic tiles
  • Magnet boards
  • Magnet cars

11 am - 2 pm: ENGINEERING EXTRAVAGANZA
  • Keva
  • Dowel and elastics
  • Catapults
  • Build a bridge
  • Marble walls - pegs & elastics challenge
 
NS3 WORKSHOPS

Limited seats available for workshops. First-come, first-serve.

Friday, March 22
11 am - 12 pm: SQUISHY CIRCUITS
  • Explore circuitry and electronics with crazy pathways
  • Children will use conductive and insulating dough to light up LEDs, sun motors and sound buzzers
Friday, March 22
1–2 pm: LEGO ROBOTICS
  • Create LEGO robots then program them to move using drag and drop programming software
Friday, March 29
11 am - 12 pm: POP BOTTLE TERRARIUMS
  • Terrariums are closed ecosytems and provide an awesome example of the water cycle in action
  • Children will play the water cycle game and construct a functional terrarium to take home
Friday, March 29
1–2 pm: 
REACTIONS
  • Experiment with a little kitchen chemistry
  • Learn some basic chemistry fundamentals while you try your hand at making things explode and creating slime
